Concept
Vom FASS translates literally as 'from the cask', and this is the core concept of the brand. Often described as an Aladdin's Cave for food and drink lovers, or a candy store for grown-ups, Vom FASS stores house the nation's widest, cask-borne selection of the finest fruit vinegars, exquisite oils, selected wines, exclusive liqueurs and an incredible choice of spirits, all bought from the cask.
Selling straight from the cask to the customer harks back that intimacy originally found when customers used to buy directly from the producer. It's like going 'back to the old times, back to our roots' and brings back memories of the past. All our staff are passionate about our products and receive on-going and in-depth training to ensure they are knowledgeable about our fine offerings and their uses. Our customers love the concept and it is rewarding to us to see an existing customer explaining the Vom FASS experience to their friends.
History
In 1994, soon after taking over his father’s import business near the famous Waldburg Castle in Germany, Johannes Kiderlen reorganized his shops to focus on four products: fruit vinegars, exquisite oils, selected wines, and exclusive spirits direct from the cask. This concept allowed the business to fulfill his customers’ requests for tasting and sampling Europe’s finest products and then decanting them into attractive bottles or jars of their own choice. The knowledge Johannes gained in developing his shops evolved into his company’s guiding mission – ONLY the very best ingredients that can be found will be used in the manufacture of Vom Fass oils, vinegars, and spirits.
The success of Johannes Kiderlen’s attention to customers’ desires and product quality is demonstrated by the fact he has opened over 210 stores in Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria, United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Latvia, Hungary and, of course, now in Madison, in only a few short years. As well, Vom Fass products have received (and continue to receive) recognition through numerous awards at international tasting events.
